Building Trades 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Beginning the 2010 Fall semester I began teaching in the Carpentry shop, rather than in the welding shop. My vocational background has been primarily in the carpentry field, so I am feeling right at home in all the saw dust.
Building Trades 1 (CORE)
This is the first course in the carpentry pathway. This year long course focuses on safety, learning layout and understanding different construction materials. We start building small projects and move into basic framing later in the year.
Building Trades 2
This class continues with more framing and we learn a bit more about floor, wall, and roof framing. The students also learn to layout rafters and stairs and move onto trim work, roofing and even painting.
Building Trades 3
The carpentry 2 class is really the 3rd class in the carpentry strand and we dive further into framing more difficult situations such as hip roofs and learn basics of electrical wiring, plumbing, drywall, concrete, tiling, hanging windows and doors, etc.
Building Trades 4
Carpentry 3 is intended to hone skills the students have learned in previous years. Also, they will learn a bit more about finish work and hopefully have some cabinet projects to work on. They will also learn to hang cabinets and work with the fine woodworking equipment. My intent is that the students who complete all the courses are well rounded and well versed in many construction processes.
