An Architectural Elevation Drawing using AutoCAD
The Drafting program at Hutchison High School consists of 3 years worth of courses.
1. Drafting 1a and 2b
2. CAD Drafting (Computer Aided Drafting)
3. Architectural Drafting

Drafting 1a and 2b
The first year of drafting consists of both hand drawings and computer drawings (CAD). First we learn fundamentals of 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional drawings using the board drafting technique. This helps students understand basic concepts of all types of drawings. From there we dive into CAD, using the computer program AutoCAD, which is commonly used in industry. We also touch on other CAD programs such as Sketchup, Autodesk inventor and Revit. This class is a great introduction into the basics of drafting and CAD.
CAD Drafting 1a and 2b
Year 2 and 3, the students learn more in depth information about the program AutoCAD by completing drawings that are derived from real life objects. The first quarter is drawing 2 dimensional representations of mechanical objects that the students must measure themselves. We then dive into learning the details of using AutoCAD, building on their skills from the basics.
The second semester is all 3 dimensional drawing, using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor. An inventor user certification exam may be taken towards the end of the year to give a student credentials that can be shown to a potential employer.

Architectural Drafting 1a and 2b
A student may take Architectural Drafting for either their 2nd or 3rd year of drafting. This class builds upon the architectural drawing knowledge that was learned their first year of drafting. Students will learn about the types of drawings that are common in the industry, and will understand all of the different symbols and schedules used in architectural drawing. During the second semester the students will use a drawing/design program called Autodesk Revit to design their own house.
There is a possibility of Revit certification for students who are up to the task.
